Snap has released the fifth-generation augmented reality (AR) glasses Spectacles.
The main highlights of the new Spectacles glasses are the fusion of digital content and the real world, the provision of voice-controlled AR filters, and the integration of OpenAI’s multimodal AI model.
The new Spectacles glasses cover the user’s surroundings by superimposing AR effects, and the wearer can control them through voice commands and gestures.
Wearers will be able to request AI-generated images to act as AR filters, or interact with Snap’s AI chatbot, MyAI, to get information about objects in their field of view
Despite the technology’s potential, Snap’s new Spectacles still face challenges on the road to mainstream adoption. They weigh 226 grams (about 0.5 pounds), significantly heavier than competing products such as Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, and battery life is limited to 45 minutes of continuous use
